Goldmine Home Staging and Redesign’s Green Business Policies:

Business activities:

• Reuse as much of our clients’ furniture and objects as possible
• Purchase a percentage of our rental inventory items from second hand sources
• Maintain, refurbish and reuse our rental inventory items
• For custom objects, reuse (when feasible) building materials
• Source local materials and rental items when possible, including locally made items
• For product purchasing, combining trips to area stores to reduce vehicle emissions
• Use eco-friendly cleaning products in clients homes/spaces
• Reuse or recycle packaging materials
• Recycle office products: paper, glass, ink cartridges, metal, plastic and electronic waste
• Use reusable batteries or chargers for tools and equipment
• Print business cards on paper with recycled content
• Buy office paper with recycled content
• Use task lighting rather than multi-bulb overhead lighting while working at office computer desk
• Unplug chargers when not in use
• Participate in yearly continuing education sessions to update knowledge on green home and business topics. Example: 2011, attended Professional Organizers of Canada’s conference session “Greener Organizing”

Client relations:

• Let clients know how and where to recycle or donate building materials and unwanted objects
• Let clients know about no VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paint choices
• Provide clients electronic invoices rather than paper (client dependant)
• Let clients know about phone, Skype, and email communication options for project follow-up rather than always driving to client
• Let clients know about home tips for living green (client dependant)
• Refer clients to other green area businesses/contractors
